Maternal and child health is a critical concern in many parts of the world, as women and families often face significant challenges in accessing necessary healthcare services and resources. In Hargeisa, Somaliland, the Mohamed Moge Maternal and Child Health Centre, supported by UNFPA, is making significant strides in addressing this problem by providing a wide range of maternal and child health services, including prenatal care, safe delivery services, postnatal care, neonatal care, family planning, nutrition counselling, and immunisation programmes.

Thanks to UNFPA's support, the centre has significantly improved the health and well-being of the community by providing mothers and children with access to quality care. The centre's facilities, which include a pharmacy and office, ensure that essential medication and resources are available to all, regardless of their income.

The centre has already helped many women in the region, such as Amiira Bihi, Kawsar Cawil, Sacda Xariir, and Asma Noor. Kawsar received ongoing care and support at the neonatal ward just hours after delivering her fifth child. Sacda also received compassionate care from skilled midwives at the centre during the birth of her newest family member. Asma Noor, a twenty-six-year-old mother of five, was there to receive neonatal care.

Amiira Bihi, a 24-year-old mother from Hargeisa, is currently receiving postpartum care at the Mohamed Moge Maternal and Child Health Center hours after delivering her second child.

Amiira had received comprehensive maternal and child health care just hours after delivering her second child, with skilled midwife Nimao providing care. These women shared their trust in the centre and the midwives' services.  Midwife Nimao shared that she is a graduate of a midwifery school in Hargeisa supported by UNFPA. Their experiences highlight the crucial role that the MCH plays in improving maternal and child health in the community.
