In Somalia, the drought is growing increasingly alarming, making it the worst affected country in the Horn of Africa. According to recent reports, over 3.2 million people are currently affected by the drought across 66  districts in Somalia, out of a total of 74 districts. With the next rainy season projected to be below-average, it is expected that Somalia will face the longest sequence of poor rains since 1981.
Since 2021, the number of internally displaced people (IDPs) displaced due to drought has increased to over 245,000, according to the Protection and Return Monitoring Network (PRMN). Reports also indicate the presence of cross border movement to neighboring Ethiopia in search of food, water and pasture.
