Today marks World Mental Health Day. As stated by the World Health Organization (WHO), the overall objective of this day is to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and to mobilize efforts in support of mental health.

Ifrah Ahmed, an anti-FGM campaigner and the founder of the Ifrah Foundation, speaks of the importance of ending Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and protecting women and girls from the psychological trauma that this harmful procedure entails.

By making a pledge not to cut your daughters, you are also protecting the mental health of women and girls

Together with UNICEF, UNFPA leads the largest global programme to accelerate the elimination  of FGM and provide care for its consequences. On 30 September 2021, UNFPA and the Ifrah foundation launched the Dear Daughter Campaign with the ambition to end FGM.

By making a pledge not to cut your daughters, you are also protecting the mental health of women and girls. Join Ifrah and UNFPA and be part of a future free of FGM.

Ifrah Ahmed reminds us that there are many women who have mental health problems caused by effects of FGM.
