As part of the emergency response UNFPA Somalia, in partnership with a two local NGOs has established 13 new maternity waiting homes in IDP settlements in Mudug and Galgadud regions.
Each maternity waiting home is located at IDP settlement and equipped with the necessary equipment for normal delivery.
The maternity waiting home is run by one trained skilled midwife who received two BEMOC training before starting the work, she assisted by tow Traditional birth attendant (TBA), whose role to mobiles and register pregnant women at the IDPs and refer them to the MWH.
Importantly, three doctors, trained for one month on CEMOC supervise the work of the midwives and refer the complicated cases to the referral hospitals. As per December, the following cases were assisted in the nine (9) maternity waiting home in Mudug and run by SBACO since the starting of the project in September 2011.
