Somaliland training of thirty (30) Midwives on birth spacing with UNFPA Support.

UNFPA Somalia in collaboration with Somaliland Nursing and Midwifery Association (SLNMA) and the Ministry of Health (MOH) has commenced a five (5) day family planning training for thirty (30) midwives. The midwives were selected from the Basic Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care (BemonC) and the Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal care (CemONC) facilities in Adwal region with an objective to improve on the uptake of family planning in the region.

he opening ceremony was chaired by the Regional Medical Officer and Primary Health Coordinator who underscored the importance of child spacing for both mother and child and the role of midwives in the vulgarization of family planning services.

UNFPA supports universal access to well-educated and regulated workforce. A health system with adequate equipment and supplies could prevent up to 60% of maternal deaths.
