After a long construction process, the Vice-President of Somaliland could finally open the new building for the Ministry of Planning and Development, and thanked the UN for its support make the Ministry more efficient.
Before, the Ministry of Planning and Development was scattered around in three different locations in Hargeisa, the capital of the semi-autonomous republic of Somaliland. But with the financial support of several UN agencies the vice-president, His Excellency Abdirahman Abdillahi Ismail officially opened the new ministry building on the 16th of May. The construction was co-financed by UNFPA, UNDP, UNICEF and IOM.
"We contributed with financial support for furniture and equipment as part of the UN family back in 2008, says UNFPA Dep. Representative Dr. Rogaia Abdelrahim which was happy to see the finalization of the construction of this beautiful building in Hargeisa".
The Minister of Planning and Development, Dr. Sa'ad Ali Shire thanked those UN agencies that supported the new ministry building an added,"Without their support the Ministry would not have an enabling environment to support planning and coordination of the national agenda".
After the official opening the Vice-President went on a tour throughout the building and later appreciated the great work of UN agencies in the country.
