Hibo Faarah Warsame

Meet Hibo Faarah Warsame, a 24-year-old midwife at Hargaisa Group Hospital. Hibo's journey into midwifery was not planned, but it was a recommendation from her mother. Little did she know that this recommendation would change her life and the lives of countless mothers and babies. As she began her training at the UNFPA supported Edna Adan University, she quickly realized the critical role midwives play in ensuring safe childbirth and promoting maternal and newborn health.

As a midwife, Hibo has witnessed both the joys and challenges of bringing new life into the world. The toughest part of her job is often the lack of understanding from some patients, who fail to grasp the importance of midwifery practices. But she remains steadfast in her commitment to education and awareness, knowing that it can help bridge this gap.

For Hibo, every day as a midwife is memorable, as she plays a vital role in ensuring safe childbirth and healthy outcomes for mothers and babies. Midwives like Hibo are essential in ensuring access to quality maternal and newborn health services for all.

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) recognizes the crucial role midwives play in saving lives and promoting maternal and newborn health. UNFPA works tirelessly to support midwives and ensure they have the tools and resources needed to provide quality care.

As we celebrate the vital role of midwives like Hibo, let us also recognize the importance of midwifery to society and the need to support and invest in this critical profession. By doing so, we can help ensure that all mothers and babies receive the care they need to thrive.

Samsam Ahmed

Meet Samsam, a senior midwife at Hargeisa Group Hospital. From a young age, Samsam knew that she wanted to be a midwife. She trained at the UNFPA supported Edna Adan University and she has been dedicated to her profession ever since. To her, the best part of being a midwife is attending to mothers and babies when they need care.

Despite facing numerous challenges on her path to becoming a senior midwife, Samsam persevered and worked tirelessly to promote maternal and newborn health. Today, she continues to stress the importance of trained midwives in the society.

Midwives play a critical role in saving lives and promoting maternal and newborn health. They provide essential care to mothers and babies during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. However, there is still a shortage of trained midwives in many parts of the world.

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) recognizes the crucial role midwives play in saving lives and improving maternal and newborn health outcomes. UNFPA works tirelessly to support midwives and ensure they have the tools and resources needed to provide quality care.

Samsam believes that more trained midwives are needed to meet the growing demand for quality maternal and newborn health care. She welcomes all students who want to pursue this path and encourages them to follow their dreams.

As we celebrate the vital role of midwives like Samsam, let us also recognize the importance of midwifery in society and the need to support and invest in this critical profession. By doing so, we can help ensure that all mothers and babies receive the care they need to thrive.
