Mrs Salada Robleh the UNFPA Assistant representative paid a courtesy visit to the Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia Honourable Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed on July 2014.The visit was to enforce the advocacy, networking and partnership. She briefed the prime minister about the UNFPA Mandate which is centered on women's education, health of the family and provision of access to health facilities. She emphasized that UNFPA's main priority is to achieve MDGs 4&5 thus promotion of midwives is a key health workforce to its achievement. The establishment of the community midwifery school in Mogadishu where 25 midwives graduated early this year is one of the achievements. RH commodities are also delivered freely to all the health centers in the country. The organization is guided by the Programme of Action adopted at the ICPD 1994.
Honourable Abdiweli highly appreciated the efforts and commitment of UNFPA for her contribution towards uplifting the quality of life for the Somali people especially the women and girls. He expressed delight for the PESS survey which will bring accurate and reliable population estimation that the country has never had since 1975. The PESS will also help to connect and build strong relationships with all the 18 regions across the country to meet development goals.
Mrs. Salada appreciated the Honourable Abdiweli and assured him that UNFPA will continue to support efforts by Governments and stakeholders uphold maternal health, gender and youth in Somalia.
