The Arab Region is witnessing compounded humanitarian crises, the effects of which have become catastrophic. Some of these are protracted, as in Yemen, Syria, and Libya, while others have become forgotten, as in Somalia and the Palestinian territories. Meanwhile, the COVID-19 pandemic has pushed even more people behind safety lines to face gender-based violence and harmful practices against women and girls, who consistently bear the brunt of the challenges resulting from these crises.

The Government of Somaliland, through the Central Statistics Department at the Ministry of Planning and National Development (MoNPD) and the Ministry of Health Development (MoHD) has launched the results of Somaliland Health and Demographic Survey (SLHDS). This study is the first Demographic and Health type of survey in Somaliland.

GBV/FGM Rapid Assessment Report - in the Context of COVID-19 Pandemic in Somalia

The GBV/FGM rapid assessment was organized and undertaken by the GBV AoR Somalia to generate data and information on the impact of COVID-19 on GBV/FGM incidents and GBV service provision. It also interrogated factors around COVID and stigmatization, access to health services for women and adolescent girls and the impact of COVID19 on schooling for adolescents’ boys and girls.
