Somalia’s humanitarian crisis continues to deepen in 2026, driven by the combined effects of climate shocks, conflict, displacement and worsening food insecurity. Women and girls remain disproportionately affected, facing heightened risks to their health, safety and well-being amid shrinking access to essential services. Prolonged drought conditions, failed harvests, economic hardship and continued displacement have intensified vulnerabilities, particularly among internally displaced populations living in overcrowded settlements with limited access to health care, protection services and livelihoods. At the same time, severe funding shortfalls have forced the closure and scale-down of critical health and protection facilities, further undermining access to life-saving sexual and reproductive health services and gender-based violence prevention and response programmes. This plan outlines the evolving humanitarian context and UNFPA Somalia’s response to the urgent need for sustained, integrated interventions to protect the health, dignity, and rights of crisis-affected women and girls. To deliver this response, UNFPA Somalia requires USD 27 million to reach 557,600 people.
